Each second of film took 20-30 drawings so you can imagine the effort these artists put into each scene. In the Ink and Paint department, heavily staffed by female artists, they placed sheets of cellulose or “cels” over the sketches and traced the lines made by the animators in India Ink. They then colored in each cel.
